Accomplished Shooter Adds to India's Medal Tally in Prestigious Asian Games Event

CHANDIGARH: Punjab-Born Shooter Sift Kaur Samra has displayed exceptional skill and resilience, securing both a gold and a silver medal for India at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou. The triumphant feat by Samra has garnered praise and recognition, emphasizing the promising talent emerging from the state of Punjab.

In addition to Samra's triumph, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Gurjot Singh Khangura, hailing from Punjab, showcased their prowess by securing bronze medals in the men's skeet competition. The impressive performance by these athletes adds to India's medal count in this esteemed sporting event.

Expressing his elation, Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer congratulated the accomplished shooter Sift Kaur Samra, along with the two skeet shooters, for their outstanding achievements. He emphasized that these victories not only bring glory to the state but also to the nation, aligning with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's vision of elevating Punjab as a frontrunner in sports.

Minister Hayer highlighted the significance of such triumphs, indicating that they serve as a source of inspiration, particularly for the aspiring sportswomen of Punjab. He attributed this success to the dedication of the athletes, the support of their parents, and the guidance of their coaches.

Sift Kaur Samra, currently a student at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, showcased exceptional prowess in the 50m rifle three position individual category, clinching the gold medal with a remarkable new world record score of 469.6. In the same event, another Indian shooter, Ashi Chouksey, secured the bronze medal. Samra's brilliance extended to the team category, where she contributed to winning the silver medal for India in the 50m rifle three position event.

In the fiercely contested skeet competition, the Indian team emerged victorious, securing the bronze medal. The team featured the talents of Punjab's Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Gurjot Singh Khangura, further solidifying India's position in the prestigious Asian Games.
