State Vigilance Bureau nabbed a Jail warder posted at district jail Barnala red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 17,000. Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said Jail warder Harmanpreet Singh was arrested on the complaint of Major Singh of village Saidoke in Moga district. He informed that the complainant has approached the VB and said that his son is undergoing 20 years of imprisonment in Barnala Jail and has came to home to spend his clemency leave for 34 days but became ill.

In order to increase the leave on the basis of a medical certificate, the jail warder was demanding Rs 20,000 and the deal was struck at Rs 17,000. The spokesperson said after verifying his information, the vigilance team laid a trap and the accused jail warder was arrested on the spot taking bribe of Rs. 17,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Patiala and further investigation was under progress.
