Earlier in April, Teghbir had trekked to the base camp of Mount Everest.

Teghbir Singh Climbs Mount Kilimanjaro: At just five years old, Teghbir Singh has made history as the youngest person in Asia to successfully scale Mount Kilimanjaro. This towering peak, the highest in Africa, is located in Tanzania and rises to an elevation of 19,340 feet (5,895 meters). Teghbir, a native of Ropar, began his journey to the summit on August 18 and reached Uhuru Peak, the mountain's highest point, on August 23, 2024. Earlier in April, Teghbir had trekked to the base camp of Mount Everest.

Despite the challenges posed by altitude sickness and extreme cold, with temperatures dropping to -10 degrees Celsius, Teghbir persevered and fulfilled his dream of reaching the top. Upon completing the climb, he received a Mountain Climbing Certificate from the Conservation Commissioner of Tanzania National Parks, including Kilimanjaro National Park.

Who is Teghbir Singh?

Teghbir, a first-grade student at Shiwalik Public School in Ropar, credited his faith in Waheguru for helping him push through the tough moments of the climb. He now shares the world record for summiting Kilimanjaro at the age of five with Serbian boy Ognjen Zivkovic, who accomplished the feat on August 6, 2023, but remains the youngest in Asia to achieve this milestone.

Teghbir attributed his success to the unwavering support of his family and his coach, Bikramjit Singh Ghuman. His father, Sukhinderdeep Singh, who accompanied him on the expedition, revealed that Teghbir had been training for nearly a year, focusing on cardiovascular exercises and building lung capacity to cope with the high-altitude conditions. The young climber regularly participated in treks to hilly locations, walking 8-10 kilometers daily and enduring sub-zero temperatures for almost a week.

The climb presented numerous challenges, including a snowstorm that forced them to abandon their first summit attempt. However, on their second try, Teghbir and the team, which included two guides and two supporting staff, successfully reached the top. His father, a hospital administrator, shared that they stayed in temporary tents and followed the Machame Route, reaching the summit in six days.

Teghbir’s mother, Dr. Manpreet Kaur, a gynecologist, emphasized that he adhered to a strict diet during the preparation. The family is set to return home on August 30, after their incredible adventure.
