Supply Milk Directly To Consumers Instead Of Middlemen: Balbir Sidhu Exhorts Milk Producers...

“Milk producers must rise up to the occasion and start supplying milk directly to the consumers instead of middlemen. To encourage the milk producers for this cause the Punjab government is supply subsidy of Rs.4 lakh to the farmers to set up their own units to enable them to supply the milk directly to the consumers.” It was disclosed by Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu, Animal Husbandry, Fishery and Dairy Development Minister in a press communiqué released here today.

Mr. Sidhu said that it is sorry state of affairs that in the present situation milk producers are struggling hard to fetch the justifiable price of their milk on the other hand consumers are also fighting to get pure and unadulterated milk. He said that milk producers should grab this opportunity and they must sell their milk directly to the consumers of their nearby cities. He said that by doing so milk producers could surly enhance their income by Rs. 10 to 12 per liter.

He said that this practice is beneficial for the both the parties as on one hand milk producers would get more price of milk and on the other hand consumers would get pure and unadulterated milk.  Mr. Inderjit Singh, Director, Dairy Development said that Punjab Government in order to encourage the farmers for direct marketing of milk is providing subsidy of Rs. 4 lakh to the milk producers to set up their unit.

Divulging the detail of the equipments required for this purpose, He said that at village level to set up a unit one would require a Bulk Milk Cooler of 500 liter capacity for cooling of milk, double jacketed Stainless steel tank of 500 liter capacity, automatic milk dispensing unit and a vehicle to carry milk tank. He said that the aggregated cost of all these equipment is Rs. 9 lakh approximately and the Punjab Government is providing subsidy of Rs. 4 lakh.  He said that a beneficiary could be anyone a single milk producer, Milk Producer Company of self help group.
