Punjab School Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla today said that to honour the martyrs and freedom fighters belonging to the villages

Chandigarh: Punjab School Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla today said that to honour the martyrs and freedom fighters belonging to the villages of the state, the education department has decided to rename 2 more government schools.

The cabinet minister said that earlier, 8 other government schools in various district have already been named after the martyrs. He added that the step have been taken following the directions of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Vijay Inder SinglaVijay Inder Singla While elaborating the information, Singla said that government senior secondary school (GSSS) at village Veela Bajju in Gurdaspur district is being named after Shaheed Naik Kuljinder Singh, who laid his life while guarding the nation in Srinagar in 2005.

He said that another Government Middle School (GMS) at Mattran village in Sangrur district has been named after freedom fighter S. Hazoora Singh, who was a prominent worker of Parja Mandal movement being led by Sewa Singh Thikriwala.

He added that S. Hazoora Singh also led Kisan Sabha and was jailed for two terms, 1.5 year and 2 years respectively.

Punjab governmentPunjab government Singla said that their government is also doing the left over jobs of previous governments as former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had announced to rename a GSSS at village Kusla in district Mansa after the name of village martyr of Kargil war but the school has recently been named.

He added that the school has been named as Shaheed Naik Nirmal Singh Government Senior Secondary School. The cabinet minister said that seven other schools in various districts have been renamed after the names of martyrs which included four brave-hearts of Punjab, who sacrificed their lives while fighting unarmed with Chinese army in Galwan Valley.

Capt Amarinder SinghCapt Amarinder SinghHe added the schools included Shaheed Sipahi Gurbinder Singh Government High School Tolawal (Sangrur), Shaheed Naib Subedaar Mandeep Singh Government Primary School (GPS) Seel (Patiala), Shaheed Naib Subedaar Satnam Singh GMS Bhojraj (Gurdaspur) and Shaheed Gurtej Singh GMS Birewal Dogra (Mansa).

He added that other three schools were Shaheed Maninder Singh Attri GSSS (Boys) Dinanagar (Gurdaspur), Shaheed Jaimal Singh GSSS Ghaloti (Moga) and Shaheed Sukjinder Singh Government High School Gandiwind Dhatal (Tarn Taran).
