Kerala people express gratitude to Punjab Govt and Punjabis for ‘service to humanity’

Passing through heavy loss and several crisis due to unprecedented downpour and floods, the people of Kerala expressed gratitude to Punjab Government and Punjabis for standing with the state in this hour of calamity. On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the state has extended an economic help, mobilise and airlifted relief material worth Rs. 10 crore on one hand and the Congress MLAs and Member Parliaments from Punjab have decided to donate their one month’s salary to Kerala relief fund on the other.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of Revenue  Department said that as per the directions of Chief Minister, the Revenue and  Disaster Management Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria had dispatched a three-member team to Kerala on August 18, which was still at Thiruvananthapuram, for carrying out relief operations in tandem with Kerala authorities. Tehsildar Phillaur Tapan Bhanot and Tehsildar Fatehgarh Sahib Gurjinder Singh are overseeing the relief operations while Director Land Records Basant Garg had returned a few days back. 

Giving details of relief material sent by Punjab Government, the Spokesperson said that 10 cargos of Air Force had arrived with 283 tonnes of relief material including food packets, biscuits, rusks, sugar, tea, skimmed milk and bottles of potable water. He informed that the moment late yesterday evening when 10th Cargo with relief material landed at Thiruvananthapuram airport, a team of volunteers from Kerala started raising slogans lauding Punjab and Punjabis for their constant help and support to flood-hit Kerala.

The team led by its coordinator Ramakrishnan said that they would be ever indebted to Punjab and other states, which extended a helping hand in this hour of crisis. The team along with Air Force officials said that Punjabis were carrying out the mission of ‘serving the humanity’ splendidly. The Chief Minister has already announced that Punjab will mobilise more relief material for Kerala as per its need, said the Spokesperson adding that Disaster Management Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria had also called upon the people of Punjab to come forward to contribute for this noble cause.
