He had brought glory to the nation by winning two gold medals consecutively in the Greco-Roman 80kg category at the Commonwealth Games in 2016 & 2017, besides winning 3 bronze medals in the Greco-Roman 82kg category at Asian championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018” he added. Praising him as a great wrestler and good human being, the SAD leader said that this time Harpreet Sandhu would represent India in the Greco-Roman 87kg category at the 2018 Asian Games scheduled to be held from 18 August to 02 September 2018 at Jakarta and Palembang cities of Indonesia.

Hailing from the Karail village of Sangrur district, Wrestler Harpreet Sandhu started training at Baba Farid Kushti Akhara Faridkot, which is famous for producing many international wrestlers like Navjot Kaur and Olympian Gurvinder. The youth SAD leader of Faridkot S. Parambans Singh Bunty Romana was also present on the occasion.
