Chandigarh: The Punjab Government, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, continues to deliver remarkable results in its mission to make the state drug-free through the flagship campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ (War Against Drugs).
On the 163rd consecutive day of this unprecedented drive, Punjab Police carried out 335 coordinated raids across all 28 police districts, resulting in the arrest of 104 drug smugglers and the registration of 74 FIRs. This brings the total number of drug smugglers arrested to 25,524 in just 163 days, a testament to the government’s relentless fight against the drug menace.
The latest operation led to the seizure of 6.4 kg of heroin, 500 grams of opium, and 1,092 intoxicant tablets/capsules, striking another major blow to drug trafficking networks.
The state-wide action was conducted under the direct supervision of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, with over 120 police teams and 1,000 personnel, including 67 gazetted officers, actively participating. Police also checked 366 suspicious individuals during the operation to further tighten the noose on drug peddlers.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has given clear instructions to all Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to ensure Punjab becomes drug-free. To oversee this mission, the Punjab Government has formed a 5-member Cabinet Sub Committee, headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, to monitor and guide the ongoing campaign.
Highlighting the state’s three-pronged strategy, Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP), Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla revealed that police teams also persuaded 28 individuals to enter de-addiction and rehabilitation programs during the latest operations, showcasing the government’s commitment not only to enforcement but also to rehabilitation and prevention.
With sustained efforts, strong political will, and community support, the Mann Government’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ continues to set new benchmarks in Punjab’s battle to reclaim its youth from the grip of drugs.
