Counsel for both States asked to submit the proposed subject of issues for the committee to be constituted by this court.

Supreme Court on Farmers' Protest at Shambhu Border Latest News: The Supreme Court on Thursday resumed hearing in the case regarding the blockade at Shambhu border by farmers and asked the counsel for Punjab and Haryana to submit proposed subject of issues for the committee to be constituted by this court.

Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh said, "We have held meetings with the unions who said they have no issues with the opening of the border but are resolved to continue with their demands and agitation."

To this, the Supreme Court asked, "Has there been any headway?" "Yes like I said but we said that they have to proceed in a legal manner. We were awaiting the order of your lordships for the committee," replied Punjab AG.

The Supreme Court said, "Yes the trolleys and all should not be... We will also deliberate and get to finalise. We will share with you we have done our homework on terms of the committee etc. Meanwhile, you continue to proceed with them, now that both state governments are involved. You can also informally discuss with them the issues involved. The committee may be small but we may give some power or authority to make recommendations. We will impress upon them to resolve and implement sympathetically. Our mandate will be that the committee examine all issues. We will like to give due weightage to their opinion. Both the States please hold meetings through officers in touch with them. We will take up on Sep 2."

In its order, the Supreme Court stated that "Counsel for both States to submit the proposed subject of issues for the committee to be constituted by this court. We have clarified that the reference to the committee will be a wider mandate so that the issues which are time and again causing law and order problems can be amicably resolved in a fair and just manner. Needful to be done in this regard, along with additional committee member names, within 3 days. The representatives of the States shall continue to meet farmers and apprise the outcomes of such meetings on the next date of hearing. Post this matter for further consideration on September 2. Interim directions to continue."
