Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday held a meeting with the 16th Finance Commission. The Chief Minister sought Rs 1,32,247 crore from the Finance Commission for the welfare of Punjab.
Of Rs 1,32,247 crore, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that Rs 75,000 crore would be for development funds while Rs 17,950 crore would be for agriculture and crop diversification.
Likewise, Rs 5,025 crore have been sought for the demand of stubble management, Rs 8,846 crore for drug prevention Rs 6,000 crore for revival of the industry, Rs 9,426 crore for urban local units, and Rs 10,000 crore for rural units.
The Punjab government also told the Finance Commission about the effect of GST on the income of Punjab. Also, he informed me about the conditions of Punjab regarding agriculture and water level.
Regarding stubble management, the Punjab government gave details about the steps being taken to resolve the issue.
The 16th Finance Commission will be in effect from 2026-27 to 2030-31.
In the meanwhile, Punjab CM said, "The subsidy discussion was part of the overall commission discussion but a large subsidy of the Punjab government goes to the power sector."
"The forest share of Punjab was 10% in the previous Finance Commission and now it has been demanded to reserve 7.50% share. The Punjab government has demanded a grant for the fight against drugs," he said.
