19-year-old student commits suicide in Phagwara

Phagwara (Pb): A 19-year-old engineering student of a private university allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan of his room here, the police said today.  

Alokik Singh, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, was a first year B Tech student, Investigation Officer (IO), Assistant Sub-Inspector of Chaheru police station Daya Chand said. Singh allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling fan on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, the official said.

Initial investigations suggested depression to be the reason behind this extreme step, Chand said. He was taken to a private hospital in Jalandhar where he was declared brought dead, the official said. The body has been handed over to his family after conducting postmortem, he said. PTI
