SAD Leader NK Sharma Resignation, Shiromani Akali Dal Latest News Today: In a significant development, senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader NK Sharma announced his resignation from the party on Saturday. Sharma, who had been associated with the SAD for 32 years, submitted a detailed resignation letter to the party's Working President, expressing his concerns over the increasing interference of religious leaders in organizational and political matters.
In his letter, Sharma thanked the SAD for the opportunities and recognition he received during his long association. He praised the leadership of late Sardar Parkash Singh Badal and Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal, commending their efforts to uphold the principles of peace and brotherhood as taught by the Sikh Gurus. However, Sharma pointed to a growing disconnect within the party on the role of religious figures in political affairs.
“Religious ideals should dominate politics, but organizational matters and religious ideals are completely different things,” Sharma wrote, emphasizing that religious leaders should provide moral and spiritual guidance rather than interfere in the internal functioning of political parties.
Sharma lamented that the SAD, once a beacon of religious harmony and a defender of Punjab’s heritage, was now being targeted by conspiracies that blur the lines between religion and politics. He expressed deep frustration over what he described as "communal extremism" and the lack of theoretical clarity within the party.
“Despite being steadfast to the principles shown by the Gurus, the Shiromani Akali Dal is being made a victim of deep conspiracies to show it as standing against religion,” he stated, adding that these issues have created an atmosphere in which it is impossible for the party to function effectively.

While Sharma reaffirmed his faith in the leadership and integrity of Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal, he noted that the leader’s honest and straightforward approach had made him a target of political factionalism.
“Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal is a man of pure heart and truth, and he keeps himself away from political tricks. He is paying a heavy price for this,” Sharma added.
Citing his inability to serve humanity and uphold the ideals of the Gurus under the current circumstances, Sharma concluded by resigning from the primary membership of the party and all associated positions.
Sharma’s resignation comes amid ongoing challenges for the SAD, including internal dissent and external pressures. His departure is likely to spark further discussions about the party’s ideological direction and its approach to addressing the balance between religion and politics.
The SAD leadership has yet to issue an official statement regarding Sharma's resignation.
