New sugar mill project of Bhogpur Cooperative sugar mill to be kickstarted by 31st March, 2019: Randhawa

Spokesman News Service, Chandigarh, 16th Oct'18: “A new modernised sugar mill project at the cooperative sugar mill, Bhogpur would commence by the 31stof March, 2019 having 3000 T.C.D. and 15 Megawatt (MW) as the unique features.” This was disclosed here today by the Cooperation Minister, Punjab, S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa during a review meeting at Punjab Bhawan concerning the project with all the stakeholders including the higher officials of SUGARFED, Cooperative sugar mill Bhogpur and the Uttam Energy company.

S. Randhawa further said that the oldest cooperative sugar mill of the cooperative sector in Punjab, bhogpur mill having the capacity of 1016 TCD would see the setting up of a new sugar plant of 3000 TCD capacity and would also produce 15 MW power. Out of this, about 8.5 MW would be sold to the Punjab State Power Corporation. The meeting thoroughly debated every aspect of the technical as well as the financial nature with regard to the project. The minister also said that prompt action within 1 week has been ordered pertaining to the decisions taken during today’s meeting.

The Cooperation Minister further added that the Punjab Government is fully committed to the welfare of farmers and it is in keeping with the long pending demand of the sugarcane farmers of the doaba region that a new modernised sugar mill is coming up at bhogpur. He also directed the officers present and the Managing Director of the company engaged in the project to ensure completion of the project in all respects by the 31st of March, 2019. The minister also assured to provide every assistance from the government’s end with regard to the project.

S. Randhawa also disclosed that keeping in mind the interests of the sugarcane farmers hailing from the Gurdaspur and Batala regions, ultra modern sugar plants would be set up at Gurdaspur and Batala which would also produce ethanol and power alongside sugar. Among those also present at the meeting included Registrar, Cooperative Societies Mr. Vikas Garg, MD SUGARFED Mr. Gurloveleen Singh Sidhu and General Manager Mr. Harbaksh Singh, MD of Uttam Energy Systems Limited, Pune Mr. Balram Adlakkha, CEO Mr. Jami and GM of the Cooperative Sugar Mill Bhogpur Mr. B.S. Gill.
