The Punjab Government in compliance of the directions of the Supreme Court of India has designated SP rank officers as Nodal Officers for taking measure to prevent incidents of Mob Violence and Lynching. Disclosing this official spokesperson of the Home Department of the Punjab Government said that Supreme Court of India in its judgment on 17 July 2018 passed in Writ Petition (Civil) No.754 of 2016, titled as ‘Tehseen S. Poonawalla Vs. Union of India and others’ has laid down guidelines for undertaking preventive, remedial and punitive measures in incidents of Mob Violence and Lynching.

He said that SP rank officers have been designated in compliance of the guidelines passed by Supreme Court of India. The spokesperson further said that measures have also been taken to identify District, Sub-division and /or Villages where instances of Mob Violence and Lynching had been reported. In the recent past and directions have been issued to all concerned to ensure that Officer Incharge of the Police Station of the identified areas are extra cautious if any instance of Mob Violence of Lynching within their jurisdiction comes to their notice. The Police is being sensitized to respond to such situations immediately to eradicate hostile environment against any such caste or community, which may be targeted in such incidents.
