Punjab Weather Update: Fog alert today! Stubble Burning Make Chandigarh’s Air Toxic

This figure surpasses Delhi's AQI, which was recorded at 334 on Sunday.

Punjab Weather Update News Today, Fog Alert, Stubble Burning and Chandigarh Air Quality: Punjab experienced its first dense fog of the winter season today, with visibility significantly reduced on roads across various regions. Pedestrians and motorists faced challenges due to the low visibility, forcing vehicles to move slowly on fog-laden roads.

While a weather transition from October to November is typical, this year’s seasonal shift has been delayed, with a sudden onset of fog now creating further complications.

Alongside the fog, stubble burning in Punjab has caused severe air quality deterioration in Chandigarh, which has now reached toxic levels. At 5 a.m. on Monday, Chandigarh recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 341, a hazardous level that is making breathing difficult for residents.

This figure surpasses Delhi's AQI, which was recorded at 334 on Sunday. Mandi Gobindgarh also reported high pollution levels, with an AQI of 270, making it one of Punjab’s worst-affected areas.

Additionally, the region is witnessing a gradual drop in temperatures. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature at 31°C, while the state’s average maximum temperature decreased by 0.4°C, marking 1.7°C below normal.

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for dense fog in many parts of Punjab today, warning that visibility will continue to be affected.
