A Significant legal move as NIA receives court order to seize Lakhbir Singh Rode's property in Moga, Punjab

MOHALI: In a significant legal development, a Mohali court in Punjab, under the purview of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has issued orders for the confiscation of land belonging to Lakhbir Singh alias Rode, the leader of the 'Khalistan Liberation Front' residing in Pakistan. The court's action stems from a case registered on January 1, 2021, invoking the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the Indian Penal Code, and the NDPS Act concerning narcotics.

The targeted land owned by Lakhbir Singh Rode is situated in Kothe Gurupura (Rode) within the Moga district. The court's directive, utilizing Section 33(5) of the UAPA, empowers judges to authorize the seizure of both movable and immovable assets of a fugitive criminal involved in severe criminal activities. This includes individuals implicated in cases of grave concern and security threats to the nation.

This move by the court is part of a broader effort to curb and penalize individuals involved in activities that jeopardize national security. The decision to confiscate the land underscores the determination of law enforcement agencies to take strict measures against those associated with extremist groups or engaged in acts detrimental to the peace and harmony of the country.
