Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India sees destiny, not fear, in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution, while calling for global standards, transparency, and watermarking in AI-generated content and ecosystems. Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, he invited world leaders to design AI in India and deliver it to the world, highlighting the country’s large tech talent pool.

Modi stressed the importance of transparency, saying it is like sunlight, the best disinfectant. He contrasted India’s approach with some nations and companies that treat AI as a strategic asset to be kept secret. According to Modi, AI benefits the world when it is shared, with codes opened and accessible. He said only an open and shared AI can ensure a safer and better world and called for developing AI as a global common good.

The Prime Minister warned against deepfakes and fabricated content, noting the need for authenticity labels for digital content, similar to nutrition labels on food. He emphasized watermarking, clear source standards, child safety, and family guidance in AI technology.

Modi divided the world into those fearful of AI and those who see destiny in it, stating India belongs to the latter, backed by its talent, energy, and policy clarity. He mentioned three Indian firms launching AI models and apps at the summit and presented India’s ‘MAANAV vision’: moral and ethical, accountable, accessible and inclusive, valid and legitimate.

The summit, attended by leaders from over 100 nations and global tech experts, was called historic and the largest ever, showcasing India as an ideal AI development destination.
