Chandigarh (Spokesman News Service), 9th Oct'18Giving fillip to the Mission Tandarust Punjab campaign begun by the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh to ensure clean and green environment to the people of the state, Markfed, which is an ace institution under the Cooperation Department, today launched a novel initiative in the form of 'Sohna Khao, Sohna Jio' which aims to provide nutritious and unadulterated food products to the people. The initiative was launched here at the head office of Markfed by the Managing Director, Markfed Mr. Varun Roojam who said that the Registrar,Cooperative Societies Mr. Vikas Garg has instructed all the field officers to publicise this initiative through every tool of communication keeping in mind the approaching festival season.

Disclosing this, a spokesman of the department said that the Cooperation Minister, Punjab, S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa in a meeting held recently, had instructed the Markfed officials to speed up the efforts in collaboration with the cooperative societies of the villages so as to make sure that the high quality products manufactured by Markfed reach all walks of the society. It was in keeping with this strategy that the 'Sohna Khao, Sohna Jio' initiative was kickstarted today. As per the initiative, the quality products of Markfed such as  Kachchi Ghani Mustard Oil, Soyabean and other refined oils, Vanaspati Ghee, Salt, Red Chilly, Turmeric (Haldi), Garam Masala and Tea Leaves would be made available to the people at very affordable rates.

The spokesman further said that the above mentioned products would be supplied by the cooperative societies to the farmers and other consumers in an attractive carry bag. According to present rates, these 8 products cost Rs. 609 but Markfed would give 17 percent rebate to the farmers and provide these products including free carry bag at a rate of Rs. 500. The Markfed while chalking out the details with regard to the initiative considered the aspect of improving the financial position of the cooperative societies and thus has kept their margin in mind also. On the occasion of launching of this initiative, Additional Managing Director (G) Mr. Rahul Gupta, Additional Managing Director (D) Mr. Bal Mukand Sharma were also present.
