Punjab Government Modernizes Punjab Police with Hi-Tech Upgrades

Advanced vehicles provided to 'Sadak Surakhsa Force' force

Mohali: In a significant move to enhance security and public safety, the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has modernized the Punjab Police with state-of-the-art equipment. These efforts include the provision of new weapons, body cameras, and advanced vehicles, aimed at making the police force more efficient and responsive to contemporary challenges.

To strengthen the police force, the government has introduced new EVR vehicles, including Ertiga and Maruti cars, which are particularly suited for navigating narrow streets. These vehicles have been added to the fleet to enable quick response times and improved mobility in congested areas. In addition, the Punjab Police has been equipped with modern weapons, ensuring they are fully prepared to deal with any threats or challenges that arise.

One of the key initiatives by the Mann government is the creation of a specialized Sadak Surakhsa Force. Earlier this year, Chief Minister Mann flagged off a fleet of hi-tech vehicles for the country's first dedicated 'Sadak Surakhsa Force' in Punjab. This initiative is aimed at reducing the nearly 3,000 fatalities caused by road accidents annually. The Chief Minister proudly announced that Punjab has become the first state in India to introduce a force specifically focused on road safety. The advanced vehicles provided to this force are among the best in the world, enabling police personnel to carry out their duties more effectively.

In Ludhiana district, the Punjab government has also installed CCTV cameras and distributed body cameras to officers, enhancing their ability to monitor and control criminal activities. These tools, along with modern weapons, are crucial in tackling issues such as gang violence and drug trafficking, which have plagued the state.

As a border state, Punjab faces unique security challenges, including the smuggling of narcotics from neighboring countries. To address this, the Punjab Police has been working in close collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF) in joint operations to prevent illegal activities along the border. A notable success in 2023 was the recovery of 107 drones used for smuggling drugs from Pakistan, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Punjab Police and BSF.

Chief Minister Mann reiterated the government's commitment to making the Punjab Police more efficient, stating that the force is being equipped with cutting-edge technology to make it more active and capable of responding to modern security challenges.
