Irregularities have been found in the size & quality of containers kept for storing food grains for Children

MOHALI: A Scam worth Rs 2.5 crore has come to light in the sale and purchase of containers for Anganwadi centers under the Department of Women and Child Development in Punjab. This matter has come to the fore in the investigation of the Accountant General Punjab (Audit).

Reportedly, Records of expenditure incurred by Anganwadi centers in 10 districts were examined in the audit. Based on the complaints received, a high level inquiry has also been started. The responsibility of investigation is being handed over to the Vigilance Bureau.

According to information, irregularities have been found in the size and quality of containers kept for storing food grains given to children in 27,232 Anganwadi centers located in the state. Instead of 100 kg capacity, containers of 70 kg capacity were procured. In the vigilance investigation, the high officials of the department and the officials dealing with the related projects will be interrogated.
