NCW Launches Nationwide Jan Sunwai Across 500 Districts, Over 15,000 Women’s Cases from March 8–14
The National Commission for Women (NCW) will hold a week-long nationwide initiative to hear and address women’s complaints in nearly 500 districts between March 8 and March 14. The program aims to make grievance redressal more accessible and strengthen the commission’s complaint-handling mechanism across the country.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Kishor Rahatkar said the initiative will be conducted in collaboration with state women commissions. The hearings are expected to address over 15,000 cases, including immediate resolution of complaints raised on the spot.
The program will cover most states and union territories, with the exception of a few that are unable to host hearings due to ongoing elections. Districts were selected based on factors such as the number of complaints received and the need to reach remote or hilly areas with limited access to grievance redressal mechanisms.
Rahatkar will personally participate in several hearings, starting in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on March 9. She will visit Vadodara in Gujarat on March 10, Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh on March 11, Medchal-Malkajgiri in Telangana on March 12, Devghar in Jharkhand on March 13, and Dumka on March 14.
The NCW said this initiative reflects the government’s efforts to enhance justice, safety, and equal opportunity for women, while expanding the reach of complaint redressal services across the country.
