A .32 bore pistol with 7 live cartridges was recovered from his possession
CHANDIGARH: In a major breakthrough, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the Punjab Police arrested Gurveer Singh alias Guri, the accused involved in the murder of Jarnail Singh at village Sathiala, as part of a campaign against anti-social elements on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. This information was given by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here today. A .32 bore pistol with 7 live cartridges was recovered from his possession by the police teams.
The action comes a day after the Punjab Police identified the role of the Bambiha gang behind the killing of Jarnail Singh and released photographs of 10 members of the Bambiha gang involved in the murder. It is worth mentioning here that Jarnail Singh was murdered by four armed men on May 24.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the AGTF team led by AIG AGTF Sandeep Goyal under the supervision of ADGP Pramod Ban has arrested Gurveer alias Guri, who is a shooter of the Bambiha gang and has a criminal background of murder, intent to murder. Several criminal cases of robbery, NDPS Act and Arms Act have been registered against him. He said that the arrested accused was also declared a fugitive.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of DSP Rajan Parminder and DSP Bikram Brar. He said that during the preliminary investigation, it has been found that the accused Gurveer along with Manpreet Singh who is currently living in Portugal and Balwinder Singh alias Doni had conspired to kill Jarnail Singh.
He said that Gurveer Guri also met the shooters involved in the murder and provided them weapons to carry out the murder. Manpreet is the brother of fugitive gangster Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi Ghanshampuria. The DGP said that accused Gurveer Guri has confirmed the involvement of Gagandeep Singh alias Daddi, Jobanjit Singh alias Billa, Joban, Gurmej Singh, Manjit Mahal and two other unidentified criminals in Jarnail Singh's murder.
Giving further information, AIG AGTF Sandeep Goyal said that Gurveer Guri was also wanted in the case of firing on the police party posted at the checking post in Sohana area of SAS Nagar police station. In another sensational crime, accused Gurveer Guri opened fire on a doctor in SBS Nagar, they said.
Notably, An FIR has been registered at Police Station SAS Nagar under Section 473 and 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25 of Arms Act.
