Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday lashed out at the opposition, particularly senior Congress leader Partap Bajwa, over his claims that over 32 AAP MLAs were in touch with him. Addressing the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Special Session, CM Mann dismissed the statements as mere political gossip and accused the opposition of failing to work for the people.
Referring to repeated speculations about his tenure, Mann said, "There were rumors that I wouldn’t remain CM for more than six months. When I completed six months, they said I wouldn’t last a year. Then they claimed I would be removed after the Delhi elections. They keep fabricating fake agendas, but I am still here."
Taking a dig at former Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, Mann compared his visibility to a Discovery Channel documentary, saying, "Your own CM never showed up for months. He was like a Discovery Channel feature, appearing once in a while. Instead of gossiping, start working on your own shortcomings."
The Punjab CM also criticized the Congress for its lack of unity, challenging them to gather even seven MLAs together in the Assembly. He also dismissed the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) as irrelevant in Punjab’s political landscape.
On governance, Mann emphasized his government’s commitment to farmers' issues, contrasting it with the opposition’s inaction. "We raised the farmers' protest issue within a month of their agitation, but Congress leaders never even showed up," he remarked.
Responding to questions about employment figures, the CM assured transparency, stating, "We have received multiple queries about the number of jobs provided to Punjab’s youth. We have the reports ready—please take them."
Mann concluded by promising a strong state budget, asserting that his government doesn’t engage in political vendettas or corruption. "We don’t have smugglers, we don’t have money, but we work for the people," he declared.
