Key Contests: Verma vs. Kejriwal in New Delhi

The decision to field Parvesh Verma in the New Delhi constituency raises the stakes for the BJP. Verma, the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, has faced allegations from the AAP of distributing cash to voters, accusations he has vehemently denied. The AAP has filed a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against Verma over the claims.

Kejriwal, who has held the New Delhi seat since 2013, will also face competition from Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, making the race even more intense.

Former AAP Ministers Join BJP Ranks

Two notable ex-AAP leaders, Kailash Gahlot and Raaj Kumar Anand, who joined the BJP after a fallout with the AAP leadership, have been allocated key constituencies. Gahlot, previously an MLA from Najafgarh, will contest from Bijwasan, while Anand has been fielded from Patel Nagar.

Gahlot, who once referred to himself as Kejriwal’s "Hanuman," left the AAP last year, citing a deviation from the party's original values.

Other High-Profile Candidates

The BJP has also made significant changes to its lineup, replacing sitting Gandhi Nagar MLA Anil Bajpai with former Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely. Another Congress defector, Rajkumar Chauhan, will contest from Mangolpuri.

Former Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay has been named as the candidate for Malviya Nagar, while Manoj Shokeen and Vijendra Gupta will contest from Nangloi Jat and Rohini, respectively.

AAP and Congress Announce Candidates

The AAP has already declared its candidates for all 70 Assembly seats in Delhi, solidifying its election strategy. The Congress, on the other hand, has named candidates for 21 constituencies so far.
