Bharat Bhushan Ashu Arrest Latest News: In a major development, the Jalandhar Court on Friday sent former Punjab Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu to 5-day custody.
According to the information, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Bharat Bhushan Ashu, a former Punjab minister and Congress leader, on Thursday in connection with a money-laundering case linked to a tender scam.
Ashu, 53, was taken into custody following interrogation at the ED’s zonal office.
In August 2023, the ED conducted raids at Ashu’s residence, the home of Raman Balasubramanium—former chairman of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust—and other locations.
The investigation into money laundering is based on a Punjab Vigilance Bureau FIR related to the state's 2021 transportation and labor cartage policy, and complaints about a Ludhiana Improvement Trust "scam" involving the allocation of plots to fictitious individuals.
The ED alleged that tenders were awarded to contractors who had approached Ashu through Rakesh Kumar Singla, chairman of CVC, Food and Civil Supplies.
Notably, Ashu previously served as Punjab's minister for food and civil supplies.
