“I think what is important is not that the jets were downed, but why they were downed.”
For the First Time, CDS Anil Chauhan admits Loss of Indian Jets latest news: For the first time, General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Indian Armed Forces, admitted that India did lose some jets during the four-day war-like situation between India and Pakistan that followed the Pahalgam terror attack, however he did not specify how many.
In an interview with Bloomberg’s Haslinda Amin on Saturday at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, General Chauhan was asked, “Since the incident between Pakistan and India, whether or not Pakistan downed an Indian jet — or in fact more than that — can you confirm?”
He responded, “I think what is important is not that the jets were downed, but why they were downed.”
When pressed further, the CDS admitted, “Yes, yes. The good part is we were able to identify the tactical mistake, remedy it, rectify it, and then implement the changes. After two days, we flew all our jets again, targeting long-range positions, as I mentioned.”
When asked about Pakistan’s claim that six Indian jets were downed, Chauhan firmly did not specify the figure. “Absolutely incorrect. That is not the information that matters. What’s important is why they were down. That is more important for us. And what we did after that is even more important,” he said.
General Chauhan’s remarks mark the first official confirmation of aircraft losses by India in the aftermath of the terror attack in Pahalgam, which escalated tensions between the two neighbours.
