India Projects 12.02 Crore Tonnes Wheat Output, Rabi Crop Estimates Rise
India’s Rabi crop production for 2025-26 is projected to rise, with wheat output expected to reach a record 12.021 crore tonnes, up two percent from 11.794 crore tonnes in the previous year, according to official estimates. Harvesting has already started in major producing states, with activity likely to increase over the coming weeks.
Total Rabi crop production is estimated at 17.451 crore tonnes, reflecting a 3.16 percent increase over last year’s 16.916 crore tonnes. Pulses are expected to see a significant rise, while some varieties show a decline.
Key projections for pulses include: chana at 1.179 crore tonnes, masoor at 17.3 lakh tonnes, urad at 5.08 lakh tonnes, and moong at 87,000 tonnes. Total pulses output is estimated at 1.624 crore tonnes, a seven percent increase from the previous year.
Among oilseeds, rapeseed-mustard production is estimated at 1.333 crore tonnes, groundnut at 7.97 lakh tonnes, and sunflower seeds at 1.04 lakh tonnes. Maize production is projected at 1.59 crore tonnes, and rice is expected to reach 1.672 crore tonnes. Coarse cereals are estimated at 2.134 crore tonnes, compared with 1.986 crore tonnes last year.
The Agriculture Ministry has clarified that these figures are based on average yield assumptions and may be revised in subsequent updates.
