Vijay Expresses Condolences, Announces Rs 20 Lakh Compensation for Families of the Deceased

Tamil Nadu Stampede, BJP-led NDA Constitutes Delegation To Visit And Investigate Karur Stampede News: BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda has constituted an NDA delegation to visit Karur and investigate the circumstances that led to the stampede during the TVK party’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu.

The delegation will also meet the affected families of the tragedy and submit its report at the earliest, the press release of Arun Singh, National General Secretary of the BJP, read.

Thirty-six people, including eight children, died in a stampede at actor-politician Vijay's rally in Karur, about 400 km from Chennai, on Saturday.
Following the tragic incident, Vijay said he was heartbroken and in "unbearable pain" after the stampede that left women and children dead in one of the worst tragedies the state has witnessed recently.
The victims also included 16 women.

The Union Home Ministry has sought a report on the stampede from the Tamil Nadu government. According to officials, the stampede broke out in the evening around 7:30 pm, just as Vijay was addressing supporters who had gathered in huge numbers throughout the afternoon and had been waiting for hours to get a glimpse of the TVK leader, who is also a top movie star.

Vijay, who was addressing the massive gathering from atop his campaign vehicle, halted his speech midway when many workers raised an alarm after noticing people fainting and falling. Many who fainted included women and children.

The government also announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the victims.

On 28 September, Vijay issued a statement announcing Rs 20 lakh each to the families who lost their loved ones in the incident and Rs 2 lakh each to those who were injured and are undergoing treatment.

“This is a loss that cannot be compensated. No matter what consolation is given, it is impossible to bear the loss of our loved ones. However, as a member of your family, I intend to provide 20 lakh rupees to each family who lost a relative and 2 lakh rupees each to those who were injured and are undergoing treatment. Though this amount is small compared to the loss, at this time, it is my duty as a family member and relative to stand with you wholeheartedly,” the actor-turned-politician said in a post on X.

He assured that Tamil Nadu Vetri Kagamagan will provide all possible assistance to those undergoing treatment.

Vijay expressed his deepest condolences to the families mourning the loss of their loved ones.

“Thinking about what happened yesterday in Karur, which is beyond imagination, my heart and mind are deeply shattered. In this immense grief of losing our loved ones, I do not even know how to express the pain in my heart. My eyes and mind are overwhelmed with sorrow.
The faces of all of you I have met keep coming to my mind. Thinking about my dear relatives who showed love and affection makes my heart ache even more deeply from that place.
My dear ones… To you who are mourning the loss of our beloved family members, I express my deepest condolences with heartfelt pain, and at the same time, I stand close to your heart to share this great sorrow,” Vijay said in the same post.
