Rahul Gandhi: Ladakh’s Amazing People, Culture, and Traditions Are Under Attack by BJP & RSS: Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday fumed in anger over the situation in the Union Territory of Ladakh, accusing the BJP and RSS of attacking “Ladakh’s amazing people, culture, and traditions.”
In a post on X, the Congress leader said, “Ladakh’s amazing people, culture, and traditions are under attack by BJP & RSS.”
“Ladakhis asked for a voice. The BJP responded by killing four young men and jailing Sonam Wangchuk. Stop the killing. Stop the violence. Stop the intimidation. Give Ladakh a voice. Give them the 6th Schedule,” Rahul Gandhi wrote in the post.
Sonam Wangchuk, whom many Ladakhis refer to as the voice of Ladakh, was arrested on the 26th under the National Security Act, 1980, and was taken to Jodhpur in Rajasthan on the same day.

Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, told The Hindu that she had yet to receive a copy of the order or speak to her husband.
Gitanjali Angmo further said that the police told her on September 26, the day he was detained from his village, that they would allow her to speak to Mr. Wangchuk once he reached Jodhpur.
Sonam Wangchuk has been accused of inciting the violence that led to the deaths of four people, including a retired army person whose father also served in the Indian Army for over 30 years.
Gitanjali Angmo said, “Forget inciting it, he was not even aware of this.”
“Sonam Wangchuk is certainly not a threat to public order. He has been protesting in the most peaceful and Gandhian way possible. It was a peaceful protest by the Ladakhi youth. It was the security personnel who used tear gas first, and as a reaction to that, the youth started pelting stones, and the whole thing escalated. Sonam had nothing to do with it. Forget inciting it, he was not even aware of this. He immediately condemned the violence and stopped his fast because he did not want the youth to be harmed in any way,” Gitanjali Angmo was quoted as saying in The Hindu report.
Congress condemns the handling of the situation in Ladakh by the Government and the Arrest of Sonam Wangchuk
The Indian National Congress strongly condemned the 'pathetic handling' of the situation in Ladakh by the Government & subsequent arrest of Sonam Wangchuk under the draconian National Security Act.
"At the heart of the crisis lies the BJP’s persistent betrayal of the aspirations of the people of Ladakh. For over a year now, there has been turmoil, and instead of lending a patient hearing to the cries of the people for inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, the Modi Government is responding with violence," Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge said in a post on X on 27 September, one day after the arrest.
"The BJP had pledged Sixth Schedule status for the region; sadly, that promise has been squarely abandoned. The Indian National Congress seeks nothing but peace in Ladakh. For decades, we have ensured that this beautiful border region remains harmonious and secure, upholding both the spirit of Democracy and the cause of National Security," the post further read.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also demanded a judicial investigation into the deaths of "innocent young men and the serious injuries inflicted upon many others."
"The democratic institutions and democracy need to be revived and restored in Ladakh," he added.
Meanwhile, Ladakh has entered the fifth day of curfew-like restrictions.
