The fragile situation did not deter Modi from bashing Opposition and promoting himself today

Chandigarh, 28th Feb (Ravijot Kaur): At a time when the country is reeling with the aftereffects of Pulwama attack and the following Air Strikes by IAF on Pakistani soil, the Prime Minister of India is carrying his electioneering. When the whole country is praying for the safe return of Indian pilot captured by the Pakistani Army, the nation saw a large-scale video conference by the Prime Minister, in which he addressed his booth workers across the nation.

The Prime Minister, in his address, claimed that his video conference is going to make a record in the world, by having the largest number of attendees. This video conference had been scheduled for some time now, but there had been rising voices in demand of its postponement in accordance to the grave security situation. PM Modi’s wish to create a world record, and blatantly stating this has been seen in a bad taste.

The slogan loving Prime Minister reiterated the 2019 campaign slogan, ‘Mera Pariwar, Bhajapa Pariwar’. He encouraged all BJP workers to hoist a BJP flag in front of their homes, shops and on their vehicles, reaching above their height, in an hour when the national unity is required and not a party divide. He also announced a ‘Vijay Sankalp Bike Rally’ on March 2, which is aimed at wooing the young first-time voters for 2019.

Despite the leaders of ruling party asking the political leaders across nation, to not gain political mileage out of the crisis, and the opposition showing commendable restraint too, all that now looks like a lip service. The PM himself has been indulging in using the recent developments to his political benefit. In his address today he said, that if BJP is not elected again, the country will go back to being mismanaged again, as it was before 2014.

He blamed the non-BJP state governments for being anti-development, and for not providing any benefits to the public which the Central Government schemes do. He tried instilling the rise of scandals again, if his government is not re-elected. He perhaps forgets his party’s many alleged involvements. PM Modi talked about a healthy competition between the Government and the Opposition.

But, as he clarified in his very next sentence, more important that that relationship is a healthy competition within a party. Encouraging a healthy competition among BJP booth workers, he asked them to take up the challenge of knowing at least 10 families before the election, and also propagate the NAMO app to as many people. All in all, the today’s program proved to be in a very bad taste, where the supreme leader of a country in crisis was busy making his priorities clear, which are campaigning for election, using the martyrs for personal gain, and using the armed forces to achieve its own propaganda. It needs to be seen how well this bodes with the people of the country.
