A delegation led by Gujarat Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi called on Vice-President and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu. Naidu welcomed the delegation and gave a brief introduction about the constitutional set-up of the parliamentary system. He talked about the composition, nature of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) and highlighted the relationship between the two Houses of Parliament, as well as telling them about the parliamentary procedures.

Naidu underlined the importance of deliberations in parliamentary committees, where discussions are held above party lines and their recommendations are of considered value for the government. The Rajya Sabha chairman informed the delegation about some of the new initiatives taken by the Upper House like simultaneous interpretation facility available in 22 Indian languages for Members of Parliament listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly thanked Naidu for apprising the delegation of various procedural devices of Parliament.
