PM Modi to Participate in 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Tegh Bahadur and International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to visit Kurukshetra, Haryana, on Tuesday, November 25. He is going to participate in two major events—the International Gita Mahotsav and the state-level commemoration of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the revered ninth Sikh Guru. This visit is of both political and symbolic significance, following a month after the Prime Minister’s proposed visit to Sonepat in October was cancelled due to the tragic suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini confirmed this visit and said Haryana is going to observe the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Tegh Bahadur, revered as “Hind Di Chadar” (protector of India), with great devotion and religious fervour. Many party workers are expected to participate in the state-level event. It is part of a series of programmes under the “Sant Mahapurush Samman Evam Vichar Prasar Yojana”, concluding in the November 25 mega event.

The designated partner state for this year’s International Gita Mahotsav is Madhya Pradesh. The Mahotsav commenced with a “Gita Yagna and worship ceremony at Brahma Sarovar on November 24”. The three-day International Gita Seminar at Kurukshetra University will feature 25 scholars from 16 countries.

From November 26 to 30, Padma Vibhushan Rambhadracharya will conduct a katha under Jeeyo Geeta. A “Sant Sammelan” on November 29 will bring together spiritual leaders to deliberate on the teachings of the Gita.

On November 30, the All India Devasthanam Conference will convene heads of religious and spiritual institutions. Cultural programmes and a Gita Maha Aarti along the banks of Brahma Sarovar, from November 15 to December 5, will highlight the ongoing festivities. From November 25 to December 1, events will take place across the 48 Kos Kurukshetra region, including Gita Yagya, Gita Path, and Bhagwat Katha at Jyotisar Tiratha, followed by a global Gita recitation by 18,000 students. The celebrations will culminate in a grand Deepotsav and Gita Shobha Yatra, illuminating all 182 pilgrimage sites in the region.

The Prime Minister’s participation highlights India’s commitment to heritage, spirituality, and cultural continuity, while honouring the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur and promoting the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to millions of devotees and students across the country and abroad.
