CJI Surya Kant News: Justice Surya Kant was sworn in as the 53rd Chief Justice of India (CJI) at Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier today. Following the oath-taking ceremony, he offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the Supreme Court premises.

“Attended the oath-taking ceremony of Justice Surya Kant as the Chief Justice of India. Best wishes to him for his tenure ahead,” PM Modi posted on X.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also extended his greetings on X (@ncbn), posting: “Heartiest congratulations to Hon’ble Justice Surya Kant Ji on taking oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India. Wishing him a successful and inspiring tenure in strengthening justice and constitutional values.”
Meanwhile, Justice Surya Kant’s hometown, Petwar village in Hisar, Haryana, rejoiced as he became the 53rd Chief Justice of India, succeeding Justice BR Gavai. Villagers were seen enjoying ladoos in visuals from the villages.

Former CJI BR Gavai set a new precedent today. He left behind the official car for his successor, Surya Kant at Rashtrapati Bhavan after the swearing-in ceremony.
