MEA assured that the Indian High Commission in London is actively engaging with community members to ensure their safety.

Kangana Ranaut Emergency Latest News: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed concern over the disruption of screenings of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency in the United Kingdom. The film, based on the Emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975, has reportedly faced interruptions in several UK cinemas.

"We have seen reports about the obstruction of Emergency screenings. Freedom of speech and expression cannot be applied selectively. Those responsible for such disruptions must be held accountable," the MEA stated.

The ministry confirmed it had raised concerns with UK authorities, emphasizing the need to address incidents of violent protest and intimidation by anti-India elements.

Incidents and Reactions

According to reports, masked individuals, allegedly Khalistani extremists, disrupted screenings in cities such as London, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, and Manchester. Bob Blackman, a Conservative Party MP, highlighted an incident in Harrow Vue cinema where audience members were threatened, forcing the screening to end prematurely.

"The film is controversial, but my constituents have a right to view it and form their own opinions," Blackman said.

In response, the MEA assured that the Indian High Commission in London is actively engaging with community members to ensure their safety.

Protests and Controversy

Some British Sikh groups, such as the Sikh Press Association, have protested the film, alleging it portrays the Sikh community in a negative light. These protests reportedly led to disrupted screenings and the withdrawal of the film from certain cinema chains.

Emergency also faced significant opposition in India during its release, with Sikh organizations accusing it of distorting historical facts and misrepresenting their community. Kangana Ranaut, who directed and co-produced the film, has yet to comment on the UK disruptions.
