Gandhi further claimed that the “most valuable asset” India has and will ever have had been handed over under the trade deal.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday said he would file a privilege notice against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly misleading the House and making baseless statements.

Rijiju said, “There are very clear-cut rules of procedure and conduct of business in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.”

He added that when a member of the House intends to make serious charges against another member, a formal notice must be submitted and the allegations must be substantiated.

“Rahul Gandhi has made useless and false allegations against the government, against the Prime Minister, saying that the Prime Minister has sold India and Indian interests,” Rijiju said.

“He has made a serious allegation against Hardeep Singh Puri without giving any notice,” he added.

Rijiju made the remarks after Rahul Gandhi levelled several allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government, and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri during a discussion on the budget in Lok Sabha today.

Speaking in Parliament on the Union Budget 2026–27, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Modi signed the India–US trade framework under pressure.

“I do not believe that any Indian Prime Minister, including PM Modi, would sign such a deal (India-US trade deal) unless there was a chokehold on him,” Rahul Gandhi said.

“We have been buckled on tariffs, we have handed out our data, given up control over digital trade rules, no data localisation, free data flow to the USA, a limit on digital tax, no source code disclosure, and a 20-year tax holiday,” he added.

Gandhi further claimed that the “most valuable asset” India has and will ever have had been handed over under the trade deal.

Highlighting the impact of the agreement on farmers and energy security, Gandhi said, “Our farmers have been left to the mercy of mechanised massive American farms. Our textiles have been wiped out. Bangladesh is now going to wipe out our textile industry, our energy security has been handed over, we can't buy oil from whom we want to buy oil from. Now I don't believe any Indian Prime Minister would do this."

Referring to names mentioned in files released by US authorities related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Gandhi said, "There is a businessman Anil Ambani, I want to ask why is he not in jail? The reason is that his name is in the Epstein Files. I would also like to ask Hardeep Puri, who introduced him to Epstein. I know who introduced him, and Hardeep Puri knows who introduced him..."
