PM Modi on Official Visit to UK and Maldives: Dates, Agenda, and Key Details
PM Modi on Official Visit to UK and Maldives Latest News– Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a visit to the United Kingdom and the Maldives from July 23 to 26.
During his visit to the UK, PM Modi is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer. He also looks forward to calling on His Majesty King Charles III.
In a departure statement issued on the eve of his visit, PM Modi said, "India and the UK share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that has witnessed significant progress in recent years. Our collaboration spans a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, technology, innovation, defence, education, research, sustainability, health, and people-to-people ties. During my meeting with Prime Minister Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer, we will have the opportunity to further enhance our economic partnership, aimed at fostering prosperity, growth, and job creation in both countries."
He added, "I also look forward to calling on His Majesty King Charles III during the visit."
Following his UK visit, PM Modi will travel to the Maldives at the invitation of President H.E. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, to participate in celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ Independence.
"This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. I look forward to my meetings with President Muizzu and other political leadership to advance our joint vision of a Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership and to strengthen our cooperation for peace, prosperity, and stability in the Indian Ocean Region," PM Modi said in the statement.
He added, "I am confident that the visit will yield tangible outcomes, benefiting our people and advancing our Neighbourhood First Policy."
Former Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid, welcomed the visit, saying, "I am delighted by the PM's visit. The visit goes beyond symbolism as he will be the Guest of Honour for our Independence Day celebrations. This is especially significant given the recent diplomatic strain between Maldives and India caused by the narrative promoted by the current government during the elections."
Shahid added, "The hate that was being mongered by the current government, accusing our best friend India of unnecessary things, led to this diplomatic strain. The PM's visit, as Guest of Honour, signals public recognition by the current administration that those narratives were untrue. The Maldivian people are delighted and look forward to welcoming the PM."
He further stated, "The relationship between Maldives and India has always shown that India is the first responder. Whenever we dial the international line, India responds first… India has never let us down. The increase in aid from the Indian government shows generosity and maturity."
PM Modi’s visit comes amid the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, which began on July 21, drawing sharp criticism from opposition parties for his absence from the session.
