Punjab Govt Sets November 30 Deadline for Flood Compensation, says Dhaliwal
The Punjab Government has reaffirmed its commitment to provide flood compensation to all eligible families by November 30. This is a deadline publicly reiterated by Ajnala MLA and former Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal. Dhaliwal made this announcement during a compensation letter distribution event held at the SDM Complex in Ajnala on Tuesday, where SDM Ravinder Singh Arora presided over the proceedings.
Dhaliwal stated that the government had fixed a strict deadline to ensure timely relief for families affected by the recent floods. He instructed officials and survey teams to ensure that no eligible farmer or family is left out—a verbal attribution from his remarks as reported in Punjab Newsline. He further directed that any genuine cases missed during the earlier survey be resolved immediately so that compensation can be released before the deadline.
A key highlight of the event was the distribution of approval letters worth INR 2.03 crore to 515 flood-hit farmers from villages across Ajnala, including Sarangdev, Fattewal, Terha Rajputan, Chak Aul, Sundargarh, Jassar, Balrawal, Dhangai, Kallowal and others. At another event the same day, Dhaliwal also distributed INR 2.20 crore to 515 farmers from 17 villages, underlining the government’s continued outreach to affected rural communities. Farmers said the timely assistance would help them purchase seeds, restore fields, and restart cultivation.
Dhaliwal also delivered strong criticism of the Central Government, verbally attributing his charge of stepmotherly treatment towards Punjab to statements reported by Punjab Newsline. He said Punjab had submitted a request of over INR 14,000 crore under national disaster relief norms but claimed that the Centre has not responded. He further stated that the Union Government had neither approved changes in procurement rules for damaged or high-moisture paddy nor released even INR 1 from previously announced funds. Dhaliwal also criticised delays in releasing flood-protection funds for BSF and Army border posts, noting that even the Centre’s own border installations have received no financial support.
He welcomed Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for forcefully raising these concerns at the 32nd Northern Zonal Council meeting in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
With surveys still underway in some villages, Dhaliwal assured that pending areas will also receive compensation soon. For thousands of flood-affected families in Ajnala and beyond, the government’s November 30 deadline now stands as a crucial milestone in their path to recovery.
