PM Modi to Release PM-Kisan 21st Instalment Today; INR 18,000 Crore to Reach 9 Crore Farmers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today release the 21st instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme at an event in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. As per government data, the 21st instalment amounts to over INR 18,000 crore. It benefits nearly 9 crore farmers across the country. The Centre has already disbursed more than INR 3.70 lakh crore to over 11 crore farmer families since the scheme’s launch on February 24, 2019.

A separate agricultural update cited by officials says total transfers across earlier instalments have crossed INR 3.91 lakh crore, underscoring PM-KISAN’s massive contribution as one of India’s largest direct benefit transfer programmes.

Agricultural sector leaders also highlighted the relevance of the timing. Amith Agarwal, co-founder and CEO of StarAgri Warehousing & Collateral Management, said the instalment comes at a crucial moment when rising input costs, mandi price volatility, and liquidity gaps continue to challenge small and marginal farmers.” He added that PM-KISAN’s direct transfers influence farm decisions, post-harvest management, storage choices, and credit dependency.”

Alongside the national event, Gujarat holds a parallel programme in Gandhinagar, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi, and Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani. Vaghani stated that Gujarat alone will receive INR 986 crore for 49.31 lakh farmer families.

Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), ICAR centres, and agricultural universities across India will livestream the Prime Minister’s address as thousands of farmers tune in.
