The Ministry has also provided a list of Fake Websites

NEW-DELHI: The Government of India has sounded an alert regarding the proliferation of fake websites and mobile applications falsely claiming to offer passport services. These fraudulent platforms have been exploiting the official website's popularity by emerging as pop-up alternatives when accessing the legitimate passport website, www.passportindia.gov.in. In a bid to safeguard passport applicants from falling victim to these deceitful platforms, the government has issued a stern caution.

The fake websites and applications promise a range of services, including online application form submission, appointment scheduling, and various other related services. Concerns have arisen as several of these imposter sites and apps are covertly gathering personal data from unsuspecting applicants. The Ministry has taken cognizance of this alarming trend and consequently issued a directive urging individuals to exercise utmost caution and exclusively use the authorized portal for passport services.

It has been emphasized that there is no dedicated application or website for tracking the status of passport applications. The sole and authentic website for initiating the passport application process remains www.passportindia.gov.in. The Ministry, with the intention of curtailing confusion and misinformation, has explicitly stated on its official platform that www.passportindia.gov.in is the sole legitimate source catering to all passport-related requirements for applicants across India.

Furthermore, the Ministry has also provided a list of fake websites that applicants should be vigilant against:
