ASCI Released a Report for 2022-23 in which they have analyzed 7,928 Advertisements

NEW-DELHI: From MS Dhoni to Bhuvan Bam and Virat Kohli to Ranveer Singh, there is a long list of celebrities who have received complaints against them for violating advertising norms. This information has come out in the latest report of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI).

The ASCI has released a report for 2022-23 in which they have analyzed 7,928 advertisements. The report has revealed the names of many celebrities who have violated the rules of ASCI as influencers. The complaint is that these celebrities did not do their own due diligence on the company or product before placing the advertisement.

Complaints against celebrities increased by 803% in FY 2023. While only 55 complaints were received in FY 2022, this time the figure has increased to 503 advertisements.

The Name of Mahendra Singh Dhoni comes first in this list followed by big names like Bhuvan Bam, Jim Sarbh, Virat Kohli, Vishal Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Sara Ali Khan, Rahul Dev, Kriti Sanon, Manoj Tiwari and Kajal Aggarwal. 

The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), formed in 1985, is the self-regulatory body of the country's advertising industry, which issues its reports on misleading, factually incorrect, harmful advertisements. ASCI received 8,951 complaints for 2022-23, of which it acted on 7,928. Of these 7,928, 97% were ads that needed improvement.
75% of these ads were from digital. After this, 21% of advertisements were in print.

Notably, Instagram topped the list with the highest number of violations at 33%. At the same time, 31% of rule-breaking ads were from Facebook. 22% from website, 12% from YouTube and 2% from other sources. A maximum of 35.56% of personal care ads violated the rules. Along with this, after this, 14.57 percent of advertisements in the food and beverage category violated the norms.

Tiktok Skill Games Pvt Ltd (WinZO) had the highest number of ads with 17 violations. It had Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 10th and Bhuvan Bam in 7th as an influencer. Along with this, rules were violated in 11 advertisements of Galactus Funware Technology Private Limited.

It featured 6 ads by Jim Sarbh and 5 by Virat Kohli as an influencer. In this list, influencer Shraddha Kapoor in the advertisement of Sanghvi Beauty and Technology, influencer Ranveer Singh in the advertisement of Eduara Technology Private Limited have violated the rules.

As many as 15 influencers from Honasa Consumer Pvt Ltd, 11 from Nyaka E-Retail Pvt Ltd, 10 from Apple India Pvt Ltd and 8 from MSM Retail Pvt Ltd violated the rules. Rules were violated in 15.1% of ads in gaming, 13.8% in classical education, 13.4% in healthcare and 13.2% in personal care.
