The PM-KISAN scheme provides INR 6,000 per year to eligible farmer families, distributed in three equal installments of INR 2,000 each. It has emerged as one of the world’s largest Direct Benefit Transfer programmes. Notably, more than 25% of the scheme’s benefits now go to women farmers, reflecting the government’s focus on inclusive support.

Digital Reforms Strengthening PM-KISAN

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has emphasised the role of digital reforms in making PM-KISAN more farmer-friendly. Aadhaar-based e-KYC through OTP, biometric, or face authentication ensures secure access. The updated PM-KISAN Mobile App, portal features like Know Your Status, and doorstep Aadhaar-linked banking via India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) have streamlined benefit delivery.

To further assist farmers, a multilingual AI-powered Kisan-eMitra chatbot offers 24/7 support in 11 regional languages, helping users check application status, payment details, and resolve queries. Additionally, the Farmer Registry has been launched to integrate social welfare benefits, eliminating repeated paperwork and ensuring last-mile coverage.

Eligibility and Verification

Farmers must have their Aadhaar linked to their bank account and complete e-KYC to receive payments. Landholding families eligible under the scheme include husband, wife, and minor children with cultivable land, excluding those holding constitutional posts, government employees, or income taxpayers in the previous assessment year. Only verified farmers will receive the instalment on time.
