Rahul Gandhi Meets Dalit Family of  Hariom Valmiki’s Family in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh Latest News: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday met with the family of the Dalit man Hariom Valmiki, who was allegedly killed by a mob in Raebareli.

“The brutal murder of Hariom Valmiki has shaken the conscience of the entire nation,” Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X after meeting the family.

“His family's eyes held a question with pain: Is being a Dalit still a deadly crime in this country?” Gandhi wrote in the post on his X.

He alleged that the Uttar Pradesh administration was intimidating the victim's family and that the family was even stopped from meeting him.

“This is the same failure of the system - which every time becomes a shield for the culprits and puts the victim in the dock,” Rahul further alleged.

He stated that justice cannot be kept under “house arrest” and that the BJP government should end the alleged “pressure on the victim's family and ensure the strictest punishment for the guilty.”

“I stand firmly with Hariom Valmiki's family and every exploited, deprived, and weak citizen of the country,” he affirmed.

“This fight is not just for Hariom,” Rahul said, adding, “it is for every voice that refuses to bow before injustice.”

"The family did not commit the crime. A crime has been committed against them, and it seems as if they are the criminals. They are not being allowed to go out of their house. They are being threatened. All they are asking for is justice. Our son had been killed. The murder is recorded on video. We are asking for justice... There is a girl in there who needs to be operated on, but she is unable to get it done because the government has locked them in," Rahul Gandhi told reporters after meeting the family in Fatehpur, according to the ANI report.

The purported video of the victim being beaten up by a group of people has gone viral on social media platforms.

Hariom Valmiki was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people who "mistook him for a thief" in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli, according to police.

Rahul has urged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to "serve justice" and "respect the family."

"Atrocities, murders, and rapes are being committed against Dalits in the entire nation. I want to ask the CM that they serve justice. They (family) should be respected. Action should be taken against the perpetrators, and they should not be protected," Rahul is quoted as saying in the ANI report.

In a series of actions taken following the incident, Uttar Pradesh Police have removed the Unchahar police station chief, Sanjay Kumar, and suspended five officials. The police have arrested more than 10 people in connection with the brutal murder, the ANI report said.
