Boeing 787 Dreamliner Flights Face Mid-Air Technical Issues, Several Return to Origin
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, hailed as one of the safest commercial aircraft with a strong record since its introduction, has recently seen multiple incidents of technical issues forcing flights to return mid-air.
According to ANI, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating Flight AI315 from Hong Kong to Delhi, was forced to return to Hong Kong after the pilot suspected a technical issue mid-air. The aircraft had departed from Hong Kong and was en route to Delhi when the issue arose.
In a separate incident, a Chennai-bound British Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner also made a precautionary return to London Heathrow on Sunday, as reported by Moneycontrol.
British Airways confirmed the safe landing of the aircraft and stated that the aircraft returned to Heathrow as a standard precaution after reports of a technical issue. The flight landed safely, with crew and passengers disembarking as they normally would.
However, the airline did not disclose further details, including the departure time, number of passengers on board, or how long the aircraft had been airborne.
According to Flightradar24.com, as reported by firstpost, the British Airways Flight BA35 was scheduled to depart at 12:40 PM and arrive in Chennai at 3:30 AM. It departed London Heathrow at 1:16 PM, after a delay of approximately 35 minutes, and remained airborne for around two hours, including time spent in multiple holding patterns, before safely returning to Heathrow.
These back-to-back incidents come just days after the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171, another Boeing 787 Dreamliner, in Ahmedabad, which resulted in the death of all but one passenger.
