A speeding car struck a Turkish woman on VIP Road in Zirakpur on Sunday night, leading to her death on the spot, according to a report by Express News Service.
According to the report, the fatal accident occurred around midnight in front of M-Care Hospital.
The woman has been identified as Mavluda from Turkey. She had visited a patient at the hospital with a friend and was walking back when the incident occurred.
Citing a police complaint, the report said that as the deceased and her male friend reached the main road outside the hospital, a speeding Audi hit the woman while she was crossing the road, throwing her nearly 14 feet into the air before she landed on the other side of the road.
She suffered critical injuries and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.
The person accompanying her has been identified as Abhishek, also known as Abhi. Mavluda and Abhishek were friends and had visited the hospital to check on Abhishek’s pregnant wife.
Abhishek also suffered minor injuries in the accident, police said.
Following the incident, locals informed the police. However, residents alleged that the police reached the spot nearly an hour later.
The body is currently kept at the mortuary of Civil Hospital Dera Bassi.
