PM Narendra Modi Meets Family of Late Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, died in Air India Flight Crash
Ahmedabad, June 13:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met the family of the late ex-BJP leader and former Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, who tragically lost his life in the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner (VT-ANB) crash on Thursday. Rupani was among the 240 people who died in the ill-fated Flight AI-171, which was operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister expressed his grief, remembering Rupani as a “humble and hardworking” leader. PM Modi wrote,
“Met the family of Shri Vijaybhai Rupani Ji. It is unimaginable that Vijaybhai is not in our midst. I’ve known him for decades. We worked together, shoulder to shoulder, including during some of the most challenging times. Vijaybhai was humble and hardworking, firmly committed to the Party's ideology. Rising up the ranks, he held various responsibilities in the organisation and went on to serve diligently as Gujarat’s Chief Minister.”
In another post, the Prime Minister recalled, “Vijaybhai and I also worked extensively when he was Gujarat CM. He ushered in many measures that enhanced Gujarat’s growth trajectory, particularly in boosting ‘Ease of Living.’ Will always cherish the interactions we had. My thoughts are with his family and friends in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.”
He further added, “In every role assigned, he distinguished himself — be it in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, as Rajya Sabha MP, as Gujarat BJP President, or as a Cabinet Minister in the state government.”
Earlier this morning, Prime Minister Modi visited the plane crash site and also met with the injured at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. Of the 242 people on board, only one survived the crash.
