MLAs to get a total salary of Rs 90,000 Per Month

NEW-DELHI: The Proposal to increase the salaries and allowances of Delhi MLAs has been approved ahead of the budget. Under this, the salary of MLAs has been hiked by 66 percent. MLAs will now get a total salary of Rs 90,000 per month instead of Rs 54,000 earlier.

The Department of Law, Justice and Legislative Affairs has issued a notification for the pay hike after the proposal was approved by the President. Now the Chief Minister, Minister, Assembly Speaker and Leader of Opposition will get a total of Rs 1.70 lakh per month including salary and allowances, as against Rs 72,000 earlier. Last year on July 4, 2022, a proposal in this regard was passed in the Delhi Assembly.

The Salary of Delhi MLAs has been increased after long 12 years. According to the notification issued by the department, this increased salary arrangement for all 70 MLAs will be applicable from February 14, 2023. After five separate bills were passed in the Delhi Assembly on July 4 last year, a proposal to increase the salaries of all including the Chief Minister, Ministers, MLAs, Chief Whip, Speaker and Leader of Opposition was sent to the Home Ministry. Considering it, the President has approved it on February 14, after which the salary of MLAs has increased by about 66 percent.

So far, their basic salary was Rs 12,000 rupees, which has been hiked to Rs 30,000. The daily allowance has also been increased from Rs 1000 to Rs 1500. The basic pay of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Assembly Speaker and Leader of Opposition has been increased to Rs 60,000 from Rs 18,000 earlier. MLAs will get a travel allowance of Rs 1 lakh annually, up from Rs 50,000 earlier. MLAs will also get Rs 1 lakh for buying laptops, printers and mobile phones in every term.
