Asfiya Khan, a 22-year-old social media influencer from Lucknow with over 2 lakh followers on Instagram, died on August 10, in a tragic car accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Panvel while traveling from Mumbai to Lonavala.
Four others, travelling with her, sustained serious injuries, according to a report by Bhaskar English.
The vehicle, a Toyota Urban Cruiser SUV (UP 32 MU 2287) driven by 34-year-old Noor Alam Khan, lost control due to reckless driving, according to the Panvel Taluka Police Station, cited in the report.
The car hit a cement barrier and overturned. The car reportedly rolled over 3 to 4 times before coming to a halt. Emergency responders rushed to the scene. Asfiya Khan, who was in the rear seat, was declared dead before reaching MGM Hospital in Panvel.
The young influencer had recently moved to Mumbai just over two weeks ago.
The other four severely injured in the incident are currently admitted at Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle.
According to a report by Newsbound, the car was being driven at a speed beyond permitted limits. A case has been registered against the driver, Assistant Police Inspector Subhash Dige, confirmed.
