Three more people were arrested in Nirana village in Muzaffarnagar district today after a few families from a particular community alleged that they were being harassed by a group of local people, police said. The families had threatened to leave the village if the people behind their alleged harassment were not booked and arrested. They had put up "house on sale" boards outside their homes. With the arrests, the total number of people taken into police custody in the case has gone up to seven.
Security has been tightened in the village
A police official said they have arrested the three people - Abid, Mohsin, and Adnan - for attacking two members of a particular community. District authorities have transferred two police officials for dereliction of duty following the incident. According to police, two persons from a particular community were threatened by the accused during a wedding in the village on June 29. The senior superintendent of police and district magistrate have visited the village and assured the families of protection after the incident. Security has been tightened in the village.
