Former Gujarat Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Rupani is feared dead, along with others, in the Ahmedabad plane crash.
Initially, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani shared news of Rupani’s passing on social media, although the post was later deleted. While official sources have not yet confirmed the details, the tragic developments have left many in shock and sorrow.
Who Was Vijay Rupani?
Born on August 2, 1956, in Rangoon (now Yangon), Myanmar, Vijay Rupani is a seasoned Indian politician and a prominent face of the BJP in Gujarat. He served as the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat from August 2016 to September 2021, during which he oversaw key developments in the state.
Throughout his decades-long political journey, Rupani held several important roles, including, Mayor of Rajkot (1996–1997, Member of the Rajya Sabha (2006–2012) and Minister for Transport, Labour, and Water Supply in the Gujarat state cabinet.
He also served as the President of the Gujarat BJP and was elected multiple times from the Rajkot West assembly constituency. Known for his administrative acumen and dedication to public service, Rupani remained a respected leader throughout his career.
