Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Western Railway Mobilises Rescue, Plans Special Trains for Stranded Passengers
In the wake of the tragic Air India flight AI-171 crash shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad en route to London, the Western Railway has swiftly mobilised its Disaster Management Team to assist in rescue and relief operations. Working in close coordination with state authorities, the Railway has deployed medical teams and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel at the crash site.
A statement from Western Railway confirmed, “The Disaster Management Team of Western Railway is actively extending full support in relief and rescue operations at the site, while maintaining close coordination with the State. Western Railway Medical Team and RPF personnel have already been deployed.”
To help stranded passengers and relatives, Western Railway has also announced plans to operate additional trains based on demand. “As of now, one special train to Mumbai and one to Delhi are being planned from Ahmedabad,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad airport has been temporarily shut, and a help desk and assistance area has been set up outside the premises for relatives of passengers aboard the ill-fated flight.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, Home Minister Amit Shah, EAM S. Jaishankar, and Leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi and other top leaders have expressed grief and are closely monitoring developments. An operational control room has been activated at the Ministry of Civil Aviation to coordinate rescue and information-sharing efforts.
